Tricia Brentjens, MD, named to new hospital and departmental leadership roles
We are delighted to announce that Dr. Tricia Brentjens has been appointed Executive Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Anesthesiology and the inaugural Director of Anesthesia Operations at NewYork-Presbyterian in the Columbia sphere.
Dr. Brentjens assumes these new leadership roles following her year of service as interim chair of the department. In her more than 25 years at Columbia, she has held numerous leadership positions, including Vice Chair of Adult Anesthesia. A nationally recognized leader in transplant anesthesiology and critical care medicine, she built and continues to direct the department’s highly regarded liver transplant anesthesiology program, a cornerstone of Columbia’s national prominence in liver transplantation. She has also served as Medical Director of the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit and as Associate Director of the Quality Assurance Committee, helping establish clinical practice guidelines that reflect the department’s commitment to patient safety and perioperative excellence.
As a clinical educator, Dr. Brentjens has trained over 100 critical care fellows, including the majority of current CUIMC critical care faculty, as well as faculty at many of the country’s leading academic medical centers. She is a contributing author to the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ standards for liver transplant anesthesiology and has trained more than 30 anesthesiologists across the country in perioperative transplant care.
This new chapter recognizes Dr. Brentjens’s leadership and impact on patient care, clinical operations, anesthesiology, and anesthesiology education. We congratulate her on her new appointments and look forward to her continued contributions to the department, the institution, and the field.
