Continuing Medical Education Courses
Continuing medical education (CME) inspires clinicians and teams to improve their practice and optimize patient care. CME courses are a specific form of continuing education for those in the medical field looking to learn about new developments in their field of study. Columbia University Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology CME courses include live events, online programs, audio, video, and other electronic media. Currently, we offer two CME courses, the focus-assessed transthoracic echocardiography course (FATE) and the Essentials in Pain Management Course. Each course is fully CME accredited and offered on the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus.
FATE Course
Focus-assessed transthoracic echocardiography (FATE) is an integral tool for acute care practitioners, offering earlier and more accurate diagnostic information about patients and hence has a significant impact on patient care and possible outcomes. This course features a basic and an advanced course for both the novice or the more seasoned health care provider. The FATE course focuses on the extensive hands-on training of ultrasound imaging and is accompanied by comprehensive e-learning modules.
Essentials in Pain Management
This CME-accredited one-day conference teaches attendees about the latest non-opioid treatment strategies in the management of pain and its co-morbidities. This course includes an understanding of the role of therapeutic interventions including but not limited to spinal cord stimulation, acupuncture, psychotherapy, nutrition, radiofrequency ablation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and stem cell therapy.
