Meghan Lane-Fall, MD, MSHP Named Chair of Anesthesiology

Appointment effective May 5, 2025

We are delighted to announce that Meghan Brooks Lane-Fall, MD, MSHP will join Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and as Anesthesiologist-in-Chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, effective May 5, 2025.

Meghan Brooks Lane-Fall, MD, MSHP

Dr. Lane-Fall is a nationally recognized anesthesiologist, critical care physician, and implementation scientist. She currently serves as the David E. Longnecker Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, with additional faculty appointments in epidemiology and medical ethics and health policy. As Executive Director of the Penn Implementation Science Center, she leads innovative research to advance perioperative safety, health equity, maternal health, and population health.

Her research portfolio, totaling more than $49 million, includes multiple federally funded projects that apply implementation science and human factors engineering to improve clinical care. An outstanding mentor and educator, Dr. Lane-Fall has supported the career development of more than 90 trainees, many of whom have gone on to secure independent funding and faculty positions at prominent university programs.

She serves on the boards of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation and the Foundation for Anesthesia Education & Research and is a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Lane-Fall earned her MD from Yale University and completed her anesthesiology residency and critical care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, where she later joined the faculty in 2013 following a two-year fellowship in health policy research.
